Most local business owners know they should post on social media. The hard part is knowing what to post, week after week, without it turning into a chore or a stream of stock photos nobody cares about.
Here is a simple way to think about it, plus twelve post ideas you can use this month.
Every post should have a job
Before you post, ask what the post is supposed to do. Almost every good local business post does one of three jobs:
- Build trust: show who you are, how you work and why you care
- Show proof: finished work, happy customers, results
- Ask for action: call, book, DM or claim an offer
If a post does none of those, skip it.
12 post ideas that work
- Before and after. The single best post type for any service business.
- A day on the job. A 20 second clip of your crew at work.
- Meet the team. One person, one photo, one fun fact.
- Customer story. A quick quote or video from a happy customer.
- New review screenshot. Proof from someone other than you.
- Common mistake. “The number one thing we see homeowners get wrong about…”
- Quick tip. Something useful people can do themselves.
- Behind the scenes. Your shop, your trucks, your process.
- Question of the week. Answer something customers ask you all the time.
- Local love. A shout out to a neighborhood, event or business near you.
- Open slots or offer. “Two openings this Friday, DM us to grab one.”
- The owner talking to camera. 30 seconds, no script, just you explaining something.
A simple weekly rhythm
You do not need to post every day. Three to five good posts a week beats seven forgettable ones. One easy rhythm: two proof posts, one trust post, one tip and one offer. Add stories on days you have something happening.
Use real photos and video
Stock photos are the fastest way to get scrolled past. People want to see your actual team, your actual work and your actual space. A phone is fine to start. Better lighting and a real camera make a big difference once you are consistent.
One shoot day a month can give you a month of content if you plan it: film the crew, the process, the finished work, a couple of customer moments and the owner talking to camera. Then cut it into reels, photos and stories.
Do not forget Google
Your Google Business Profile has a posts feature most businesses ignore. Posting your photos and offers there once a week helps customers who find you on Google see you are active and busy.
Mistakes that waste your time
- Posting only when you remember
- Every post is a sales pitch
- No call to action, ever
- Ignoring comments and DMs
- Chasing trends that have nothing to do with your business
