We manage Google Ads for car rental companies in Miami, Detroit, Chicago and more, mostly exotic and luxury fleets. On one account alone, DRMLXRY, the search campaigns we run have produced about 1,500 phone call leads from 28,500+ ad clicks at roughly $1.40 a click between November 2025 and September 2026.
Here is what we have learned about making Google Ads work for rentals.
1. Rentals are a seen purchase, but searches still matter
Most people do not wake up planning to rent a Lamborghini. They see one on Instagram, at a hotel or on a trip, and then they search. That is why Meta ads often lead for rentals. But the people searching “exotic car rental Miami” or “Urus rental near me” are ready to book this week, and Google is where you catch them.
2. Keywords that book
- Category plus city: “exotic car rental Miami,” “luxury car rental Chicago”
- Model plus rental: “Lamborghini rental,” “G Wagon rental,” “Rolls Royce rental”
- Occasion searches: “wedding car rental,” “birthday car rental,” “prom car rental”
- Near me searches, with your service area set correctly
Start with tight keyword groups by model and occasion, so each ad and landing page matches what the person typed.
3. Negatives save more money than bids
Rental searches attract a lot of junk: people looking for cheap economy cars, rideshare rentals, car sales, jobs and airport counters. On one rental account, our negative keyword list grew to 84 terms. Every one of those blocked searches is budget that went to real renters instead. We explain the process in Google Ads negative keywords.
4. Optimize for calls, not clicks
Renters call. They want to ask about availability, deposits, delivery and age requirements. If your campaign is optimizing for clicks, Google will find you cheap clicks. If it is optimizing for tracked calls, it will find you people who pick up the phone. For 95 Auto Club, calls as the primary conversion produced 223 phone call leads in six months from Google Search.
5. Put the price and deposit up front
This one surprises owners. Showing your daily rate, deposit and requirements on the landing page lowers the number of calls a little, but raises the quality a lot. The tire kickers filter themselves out, and the people who call are ready. On the MRM Luxe Exotics Urus site in Chicago, rate and deposit are shown right up front for exactly that reason.
6. Every car needs a page
If someone searches for a G Wagon rental, send them to your G Wagon page with real photos, the rate, the deposit and a call button, not your homepage. Model pages convert better and give Google more relevant pages to show.
7. Protect your brand name
Run a small brand campaign on your own business name. It is cheap, and it stops competitors and booking platforms from sitting on top of your name when someone searches for you directly.
8. Answer every call and message
Rental leads come in at night and on weekends, when you are delivering cars or asleep. Missed calls in this industry are expensive. At minimum, turn on missed call text back. For busy fleets, an AI receptionist can answer availability questions and take booking details around the clock.
The full system
Google Ads work best as one part of a system: a site built to book, Meta ads for the visual side, instant follow up on every lead and review requests after every rental. We cover the rest of the playbook in how to get more bookings for your car rental business.
